Yesterday, 12th July 2016, saw the first steel being cut for Holland America Line’s latest cruise ship, Nieuw Statendam, due for delivery in November 2018.
The steel cutting ceremony took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Sicily. The block will then be floated to the Marghera yard once completed and the remainder of the ship will be constructed there too.
Keith Taylor. Holland America Group’s Executive Vice President of Fleet Operations, was at the ceremony yesterday and declared his excitement at the steel cutting event.
“This is an exciting time for Holland America Line, and Nieuw Statendam’s steel cutting is a milestone that signifies our continued growth and evolution as a company and a brand,” said Orlando Ashford, Holland America Line’s president. “With Pinnacle Class we have been able to try new things, expand our horizons and push boundaries, and while Nieuw Statendam is a sister to Koningsdam, we do have some new ideas that will be revealed in time.”
Niuew Statendam will join her Pinnacle Class sister ship Koningsdam as the latest in a growing list of Holland America Line ships in November 2018.
