Saturday morning (8th October) saw another fire break out on board Norwegian Joy, which is under construction at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
It is believed that the fire started in a cabin on deck 9 with smoke spreading upwards on decks 10, 11 and 12. Around 200 firefighters and workers were in attendance to help control the fire, which was brought under control within an hour, although flare ups continued. The fire was extinguished without any injuries to the workers or the firefighters. The cause of the fire is not known and the extent of the damage caused is still to be determined.
This fire isn’t the first to blight the construction of Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest newbuild. On the 28th September, a fire broke out on board however luckily it was again extinguished with no injuries sustained with around only 50,000 euros worth of damage.
Norwegian Joy is scheduled to join the Norwegian Cruise fleet in Spring 2017.
