New Expedition Ship For Un-named Cruise Line To Be Built By Vard

Vard have announced that they have signed a letter of intent with a un-named cruise line for the construction of an expedition ship and is expected to be delivered in 2019 at a cost of around NOK I billion.

The ship will measure 145 metres long and 20 metres wide and intentions are she will hold around 220 passengers.

It is believed that the hull of the ship will be built in Tulcea, Romania and full delivery from one of Norweigan yards in 2019.

With Vard  currently constructing expedition ships for Hapag Lloyd and Ponant at both their Romania and Norway shipyards, it shows it is a busy period for shipyards and in particular the construction of expedition ships and whilst this news is only of the signing of a letter intent, both parties are cautiously optimistic that the order can be formally signed when the last details are ticked off, including that of satisfactory financing in place for the construction of the ship.
