Star Cruises will be homeporting one of their ships in Shanghai this summer as the Asian based cruise line looks to expand into the Chinese market.
SuperStar Virgo will be based in Shanghai from July to October and will offer 5 night itineraries which will call at Kagoshima and Kobe whereby passengers will be able to visit Kyoto and also Mount Sakurajima.
President of Star Cruises, Ang Moo Lim, saw the deployment of SuperStar Virgo to Shanghai as a’commitment and support‘ in order to help sustain the growth of the Chinese cruise industry. Speaking to Travel Daily Asia, he further added:
“With the fastest cruise ship in Asia, Star Cruises is excited to offer an innovative new Japan itinerary that will allow our guests to experience the many facets of the country.”
SuperStar Virgo was built in 1999 in Papenburg, Germany. At 75,338grt, she has lower berth capacity for 1870 passengers in 935 cabins.
In an increasingly competitive market, Star Cruises owners, Genting Hong Kong have shown intent in their approach to increasing their presence in the Chinese market with the deployment of Superstar Virgo in Shanghai and also with Genting Dream for Dream Cruises in Guangzhou.
