In 2018/19, Fred Olsen’s fleet of four ships will visit 228 destinatons in 73 countries worldwide and according to the press release statement from Fred Olsen, this will include 91 areas of scenic cruising, worldwide.
There will also be no fewer than nine maiden calls, including Khasab, Oman, Kirkenes, Norway and Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
Secenic cruising will also be a focus for the cruise line with new areas being added including Erfjorden, Hjorundfjord and Josenfjord in Norway. These areas are ideal for their fleet of smaller cruise ships and will get to the heart of the destination whereas larger cruise ships can’t.
Popular cruises such as ‘Lochs of Scotland’, ‘German Waterways’ and ‘French Rivers’ cruises will be returning and a 14 night cruise to Seville along the Guadalquivir River on board Braemar will be ‘timed’ for when the orange blossom is at it’s height of perfume and fragrance.
2018/19 will be a big year for fly-cruising with Fred Olsen with a dedicated fly-cruise brochure which will feature cruises to the Indian Ocean and Arabia and India.
For those who like shorter cruises or would like to try cruising for the very first time, Fred Olsen will be offering more of a choice of 5 night cruises, including to the Norwegian Fjords and cruising along the Seine. Fred Olsen feel that allows first time guests to cruising the opportunity to experience three key elements to a Fred Olsen Cruises; ‘destination experience’, ‘scenic sailing’ and ‘onboard experience’.
Key ‘experience-led’ cruises will also be on offer with a total of 117 in 2018/19. These cruises combine with events such as The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Northern Lights and also New Year’s Eve in Sydney, Australia.
Black Watch will be undertaking an 107 night ‘Around the World with Sydney at New Year voyage in November 2018, where she will visit 35 ports within 22 countries and will be a first for Fred Olsen to spend New Year’s Eve in Sydney, Australia.
Balmoral will be embarking on a maiden ‘California, Mexico and the Panama Canal’ voyage in January 2019 from Southampton. This 62 night cruise will visit San Fransisco, Los Angeles and San Diego along the Californian ‘Gold Coast’ Visits to Columbia, Barbados, Portugal, Costa Rica, Aruba, the Mexican Riviera and transitting the Panama Canal twice are included within the trip too.
Another first for Balmoral in 2018/19 will be sailing from Rosyth, Scotland on a total of nine cruises. These will include a 5 night Norwegian Fjords cruise, a 14 night itinerary to Scandinavia and the Baltic and also a 9 night ‘German Waterways’ break.
In 2018, Braemar will embark on a ‘You Choose Your Cruise’ sailing where guests vote for the next port of call. Guests can vote between Amsterdam versus Rotterdam, Copenhagen versus Hundested, Tallinn versus Saaremaa, Helsinki versus Kotka, and Travemunde versus Wismar. Guests on this cruise will also experience a two night stay in St Petersburg, Russia.
For guests that enjoy a ‘Mystery Cruise’, in 2018/19 there will be three on offer. Five night Easter Mystery cruise in March 2018 on board Boudicca, nine night ‘Mystery Cruise’ on Black Watch in October 2018 and on board Balmoral for a twelve night ‘Mystery Cruise’ in November 2018.
One of the great highlights of 2018 will be the celebration of the 170th Anniversary of Fred Olsen. On the 10th September 2018, all four ships within the fleet will meet in Cadiz. Dubbed ‘Captains in Cadiz’ event, it will be a repeat of the first four ship meeting in Bergen in July 2015. All four Fred Olsen ships will be operating on different cruises with Balmoral sailing on a 14-night ‘Cities of Spain, Portugal & Morocco’ cruise; Braemar on a 14-night ‘Authentic Andalusia’ itinerary; Boudicca on a 15-night ‘Island-Hopping to Petra’ sailing; and Black Watch on a 14-night ‘Islands of the Azores & Madeira’ voyage.
Regarded as The ‘Fjords Specialist’, Fred Olsen look to build on that reputation by offering not just itineraries to the Norwegian Fjords but also a 16 night cruise on Boudicca in August 2018 to the ‘Fjords of Greenland’. In September 2018 on Boudicca, there will be a chance for a shore excursion to the ‘Fjords of Musandam’ in Oman, where guests will travel on traditional dhow boat whilst on a 14 night ‘Arabian’ fly cruise itinerary.
A visit to Spitsbergen is also on the cards for June 2018 on board Black Watch. The 15 night cruise will call to Pyramiden; a deserted Russian mining town which was once thriving and also a visit to Longyearbyen where Summer dog-sledding is an option.
Boudicca will be sailing on a wonderful 14 night ‘Authentic India’ fly-cruise in October 2018 with visits to Kochi, Porbandar, Mumbai, Goa and Vizinjam (Thirupanananthapuram) Dubai and Columbo.
For those that like the movie glamour and the thrills and spills of motor racing, Boudicca will be offering a 16 night ‘Film Stars and Classic Cars’ cruise in May 2018. Guests will be able to enjoy the ‘Monaco Historic Grand Prix’ where the creme de la creme of classic cars will be racing the iconic winding streets of the Grand Prix circuit. For film buffs, the visit also coincides with Cannes Film Festival.
If you love Italy, then Boudicca will transport you to ‘Rome, Amalfi, Tuscany and Italian Riviera’ on a 22 night sailing in May and June 2018. Ports of call include Naples, Civitavecchia (Rome), Livorno (Pisa/Florence) Genoa, Portofino and Sanremo.
