13th March 2017 saw the unveiling of ‘Project Edge’ and more specifically the unveiling of Celebrity Cruises ground breaking new ship, Celebrity Edge.
‘A ship designed to leave the future behind’ is the latest tagline for the new ships but certainly, you can see where Celebrity Cruises are coming from as these new ships are set to leave other competitors in their ‘wake’.
At 117,000grt and capacity for 2918 guests, Celebrity Edge, the first in a class of new ships for Celebrity,is set to debut in late 2018.
Features on board the new ships will simply leave guests speechless. The most magnificent feature will be the moveable deck (yes you read right, a moveable deck) named the ‘Magic Carpet’ which will move between decks 16 and decks two. It will be a multi purpose venue, transforming from a place of relaxation for guests with bar, comfortable seating and space for live entertainment, to an embarkation platform to the tenders in anchor ports and to a speciality restaurant in the evening.
A dedicated deck to leisure activities and pursuits will add an extra dimension to the ship. Here is where guests can enjoy a dip in the swimming pools in the dedicated pool area, a dip in the 2 two storey hot tubs or relaxing in the impressive 165 square feet by 18 square feet high private cabanas. Guests can also enjoy an adult’s only solarium, jogging track, pool bar and the Rooftop Garden, where inspired by childrens’ playgrounds guests can enjoy an ‘urban playscape’ and here you’ll be able to find Celebrity’s signature grass at sea. A Rooftop Grill will also be included and guests can be able to enjoy a bite to eat whilst enjoying the relaxations of the garden area.
Accomodation on board the new ships will be as equally as mind-blowing. Working with internationally renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen MBE of Kelly Hoppen Interiors, architect Tom Wright of WKK and American designer Nate Berkus serves as Celebrity Edge’s design ambassador, the design of the new accomodation on board the new ships are sure to be ‘fresh, exciting, current and comfortable’ Something that it compatible with Celebrity’s unique take on ‘Modern Luxury’.
The new Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda will certainly not disappoint their occupants. Staterooms will allow for the creation of ‘seemless space, from the room’s door all the way to the water’s edge’. Technology will allow guests to feel more connected with the outside air and sea and with the press of a button, they will have access to their veranda which will invite the ‘outside in and the inside out’. Guests will also have full control of their staterooms and by pressing another button, they can customise the lighting, shades, temperature and get this, a setting to tuck them in or gently wake them up!!
With the new design, the 918 Edge Staterooms with the infinite veranda will have 23% more square footage and have 10% bigger bathrooms than their Solstice class fleetmates. There will also be a Celebrity first with the addition of 16 single staterooms with the infinite verandas. The design adds 23 percent more square footage and 10 percent larger bathrooms than Celebrity’s Solstice Class.
For those who wish to experience the top accomodations on board, guests will now have on offer a new private area called The Retreat, especially reserved for suite guests. Within The Retreat, there will be a private pool on The Retreat Sundeck, The Retreat Lounge which will include personal butler service 24 hours, 7 days a week and also the exclusive restaurant to suite guests, Luminae @ The Retreat.
